SCIENCE/ COMPOSITION TEACHER

Jennifer holds a bachelor’s degree in speech communication with an emphasis in Elementary Education from the University of Northern Colorado. With almost 30 years of teaching experience, she has worked in public schools, homeschooled her children, taught and led at a coop and most recently served in a private Christian school. For the past two years, Jennifer has taught multiple subjects to middle school students fostering strong relationships and creating engaging learning environments. Specializing in teaching science for grades 1-9 over the last 9 years, Jennifer is passionate about hands-on learning and conducting experiments alongside her students. Her interactive approach inspires curiosity and a love for discovery.

COURSE DESCRIPTIONS:

Biology – Grade 8-10

In this class we will learn about the monera , protozoa, mammalia and plantae kingdoms. Also, assorted topics including the mighty mitochondrion, DNA, understanding the diDerence between macro and micro evolution and a lot more. I will focus on hands-on experiments in each module including using microscopes and dissecting animals. A portion of class time will be used to help students understand harder concepts not easily learned from a book. Each student is responsible to turn in On Your Own questions and study guides. Tests will be given in class. Students will need Apologia Exploring Creation with Biology 2 edition. COST: $350 per student for 2 hours a week/ semester.

General science – Grade 6-8

This book is one of my favorite books. The beginning of the book gives us a short history on science and what is science. We learn a little archeology the fossil record and what is uniformitarianism and catastrophism. A portion of class time will be used to help students understand harder concepts not easily learned from a book. Each student is responsible to turn in On Your Own questions and study guides. Tests will be given in class. Students will need Apologia Exploring Creation General Science 2 edition. COST: $300 per student for 2 hours a week/ semester.

Chreia-Maxim Classical Composition: Grades 6-8

Chreia – A short pithy statement. Maxim – A concise expression of a general truth. In Chreia-Maxim stage of Classical Compositon we will learn how to write these statements into larger pieces of work using rhetorical techniques. Each student will need a thesaurus and will have research to do at home. Most of the writing will be done in class with the final written typed at home MLA style.

COST: $300 per student 2 hours per week/ semester

Michael Sater has been teaching in Christian education since 2015. He is a passionate advocate of Christian education and hopes to instill a learning and raise the next generation of disciples who follow Christ with their hearts, souls, and minds. Michael attended Wichita State University and received degrees in philosophy, literature, and Latin. He also holds a Master’s degree from Midwestern Baptist Seminary. He has previously taught a variety of subjects, notable Latin, Literature, History, English, and Bible classes at Faith Academy.
